Overview

The Import Specialist will work directly with Vice President Sales, Sales Managers, and distributions to sell and promote key Import portfolio brands.

 

This position will be responsible to manage On/Off Premise, Chain, and Independent, Regional, National, and other licensed retail wine accounts. This position will be responsible for interaction with multiple states.

Responsibilities

  • Present to all level of accounts for On Premise and Off Premise.
  • Grow dollar volume and cases sold in region.
  • Help train and assist all salespeople, Estates Group and Young's in the region, in regards to all Imported wines.
  • Conduct Educational Seminars.
  • Cultivate Supplier relationships through proactive communication and account calls.
  • Actively work to cultivate strong relationship with key trade accounts in each market and delivering performance against Import brand sales goals.
  • Identify critical, high payoff strategies for Import brands and prioritizes team and distributor efforts consistent with the organization’s goals
  • Consistently examine the progress toward these goals, and determine action plans to achieve volume by market
  • Attend applicable trade events; and coordinate and utilize all promotional and marketing materials with sales team and distributor management
  • Display vision and a keen sense of the future; seeks new business/distribution opportunities
  • Proactively analyze potential problems to avoid emergency situations and act to correct
  • Assist Division Vice President in developing sales forecasts; set and communicate objectives to team and/or distributors; including six month marketing planner
  • Maintain technical and professional knowledge, and is an Import wine education leader within organization and with wholesalers
  • Establish strong programs and guidance for wholesaler team.
  • Plan and schedule market work with distributor salespeople in each market and deliver the message about our wineries to them directly.
  • Arrange ride-with schedules and special events for visiting personnel from our wineries.
  • Maintain knowledge current of pricing and product and correspond as such to distributors.
  • Stay informed about state laws regarding registration, price posting, sample policy, etc.
  • Respond in a timely manner to requests from account manager for information, program forms, expense reports, national account issues.
  • Keep expenditures within budget
  • Comply with Company Polices, Rules & Regulations
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

 

Accountability:

  • This position is required to serve as information resources for, and conduits between the field and the company’s management.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/EDUCATION: 

  • High school diploma and/or GED.
  • 3 or more years of experience in Merchandising.

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: This position will require the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. This position will also require the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. This position will further require the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: This position will require the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. This position will also require the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY: This position will require the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. This position will also require the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and clean DMV record.

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in Space Management software and Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) environment.
  • Very good knowledge of all imported wines.
  • The ability to analyze current schematics and to recognize opportunities in warm shelf sets and cold box sets.
  • The ability to understand YMCo priorities in the warm shelf and cold box sets.
  • The ability to overcome objections and handle retailer reactions during the reset or any merchandising executions.
  • Ability to work with management, colleagues and customers throughout the business and industry at every level.
  • Must be a highly self-motivated individual with strong analytical and pro-active problem solving skills.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS – (These are required to perform the key responsibilities of the job with or without accommodations)

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly
  • Must be able to walk, stand, climb, balance, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl on a daily basis
  • Must be able to drive a reliable vehicle from account to account
