Overview

Primary objective is to build consumption within the company’s key on-premise accounts and to strengthen the image of our supplier brands. Promotional activity, sales force support and management communication will be critical to the success of this position. Will utilize competencies of Planning, Selling, Merchandising and Communicating.

Responsibilities

  • A Wine Specialist is expected to plan time and activities to ensure proper execution of tastings, on-premise promotions, merchandising programs and special events in a timely manner within assigned accounts by:
  • Establish and following an efficient, economical schedule that provides adequate lead time to properly execute scheduled events.
  • Ensure that all promotional materials and tools for the events are available and arranged for the account’s activities.
  • Stay aware to the fact that the proper quality & quantity of product is available at the account where the event is scheduled.
  • Know our supplier’s procedure and Young’s Market priorities and programs for the month by attending sales and team meetings when scheduled.
  • Know and understand our customer’s business, key on-premise accounts, merchandising and promotional philosophy, key management personnel and pricing structures.
  • Work closely with management to analyze each account for all promotional opportunities.
  • Fulfill all promotional requests and special event activities in a timely manner by:
  • Understand and implement specific on-premise business building strategies.
  • Properly identify key account’s promotional frequency and publishing scheduled events on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain a high visibility ofYoung's supplier brands with a major concentration in high volume promotion driven accounts.
  • Provide service that meets or exceeds Young's standards.
  • Maintain a solid inventory system by:
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of necessary promotional materials to properly execute every account promotion/activity.
  • Keep promotional material well organized, clean and current.
  • Maintain proper reporting systems in accordance with Young's policy and procedures.
  • Follow standard company policies and procedures.
  • Submit prompt, accurate reports as directed by suppliers and Young's management.
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate account records.
  • Keep management informed on customer activities, merchandising and sales trends, competitive activity and general market conditions.
  • Maintain adequate, well-organized inventories of promotional tools and materials needed to support programs and accounts activities.
  • Represent the company in a positive and professional manner at all times by building and maintaining harmonious business relationships.
  • Communicate all sales issues and opportunities for their respective area of responsibility.

Qualifications

    • Must have high school diploma or equivalent
    • Requires 2-3 years experience in sales role.
    • Must have a strong focus on customer service and proven communication/interpersonal skills.
    • Must possess valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and clean DMV record.
    • Must be at least 21 years of age.
    • Must be computer literate including MS Office suite.
  • Must have or attain within two (2) years of hire one of the following credentials: CSW or CWE
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Write routine reports, and correspondence
  • Speak effectively before managers, customers or employees of the organization.
  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages,
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast environment; and demonstrate analytical skills to interpret financial/market data and prepare reports.
  • Ability to work productively under stress and meet deadlines.
  • Creativity, problem solving and project management skills are essential in this role.
  • Excellent follow through skills required.

PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 or more years of related experience in wine sales with an alcoholic beverage wholesaler, supplier and/or training
