The Director, Wine Education – California is responsible for all aspects of wine education and training to employees of Young’s Market Company.  This individual will develop and manage employee and trade education programs that position Young’s at the forefront of wine sales education. This role will leverage resources and content across regions, sales divisions, and suppliers to maximize the impact and value of training aligned with our business initiatives.  This position reports to the Executive Vice President/General Manager, California.   


  • Develop and manages Young’s overall wine education strategy and curriculum.
  • Nurture Young’s wine culture and wine business development objectives.
  • Develop the training and resources available specific to Young’s portfolio of wine brands. 
  • Creates, refines, and enhances educational tools, resources, materials; and leverages technology.
  • Assess current wine capabilities by channel and division and recommend and develop educational curriculum based on results.
  • Responsible for administration of all testing and progress evaluations.
  • Measure and communicate progress and provide recommendations regarding training effectiveness to California business leadership team.
  • Facilitate all product knowledge components of Young’s Professional Development Program.
  • Build relationships with, actively engages and communicates regularly with key partner education groups (SWE, WSET, MS, MW, etc.), wine schools, and independent and supplier educators.
  • Facilitate supplier educational seminars, and product-education activities.
  • Contribute to other training initiatives as needed.



  • At least 7 years of experience in the industry in a relevant position such as training, marketing or sales.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in a related field.
  • Certification from one or more respected wine education programs, such as WSET, SWE, MS or MW.


  • Prior experience in a corporate learning and development role designing education programs, preferably in the wine or spirits industry.
  • Instructional design skills and experience.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and application.
