  • Overview

    Chain Merchandiser Interns are responsible for maximizing the sale of supplier brands to the retail chain customers by maintaining and improving our brand presence. The intern will learn how to and be responsible for effectively stocking shelves, product placement, communication, and overall account management resulting in the achievement of company and supplier programs and objectives.  This position works independently in stores with general direction from a District Manager.


    • Work in conjunction with Sales Representatives/ Merchandisers, and District Managers to ensure effective execution of distribution, display presence, programming, initiatives, POS, and overall brand awareness.  This is achieved by:
      • Resolve any out of stocks (OOS) on the shelves, cold box or supplemental locations when possible.
      • Replace shelf labels, sales signs and price tags in cooperation with store personnel
      • Make suggestions for more beneficial shelf placements, additional locations, and shelf space.
      • Notify store and YMCo personnel when OOS exist and work to resolve them
      • Effectively service and merchandise all assigned accounts during peak selling times.
      • Increase brand visibility by seeking and maximizing point of sale (POS) opportunities.
    • Establish and follow an efficient and economical route that ensures assigned accounts are serviced and merchandised as needed.
    • Ensure feature price promotions and display merchandising support from the assigned territory chain account buyers.
    • Effectively use YMCO tools to capture displays, planner, and other store level information.
    • Develop a deeply trusting relationship with all decision makers and store management so that we can provide best-in-class service relative to wine and spirits in their account.
    • Attend periodic sales and competency trainings as needed.
    • May perform additional duties assigned.



    • Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institute.
    • Current college enrollment or intent to enroll within 3 months is required.
    • Must be able to read and write and effectively communicate in person with multiple people in a fast-paced, busy environment.
    • Must possess valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and clean DMV record.
    • Must be at least 18 years of age.


    • Ability to quickly understand processes and procedures specific to each individual account to become a positive influence on daily operations.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.) environment.
    • Ability to work with management, colleagues, and customers throughout the business and industry at every level.
    • Ability to learn basic product knowledge such as varietal, brand association, and price point quickly.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS – (These are required to perform the key responsibilities of the job with or without accommodations)

    • Lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly
    • Walk, stand, climb, balance, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl on a daily basis
    • Drive a reliable vehicle from account to account


    • Must possess a valid state driver's license.
    • Must have a clean Motor Vehicle Record
    • This job requires the use of your personal vehicle of which you will be reimbursed for business related driving expenses.
    • This job requires a person to be 21 years of age or older.


    • This position requires weekend work.
    • This position may require early morning work.
    • This position may require you to work in the receiving area and/or stock room of chain grocery, drug & mass accounts.
