  • Overview

    The Senior Tax Accountant reports to the Tax Director and is responsible for preparing, maintaining and defending Sales Tax, Excise Tax and other non-income tax related filings. The Senior Tax Accountant must have a solid understanding of indirect taxes and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and be able to learn quickly.

    Responsibilities

    • Prepare sales tax filings for multiple entities and multiple states
    • Analyze current approach to sales tax compliance to determine new efficiencies and best practices
    • Defend and support sales tax returns during audits
    • Assist with inquiries and correspondence from taxing authorities
    • Monitor new tax legislation and impact to the company
    • Guide company compliance efforts as rules and laws are modified
    • Complete state excise tax returns for multiple entities
    • Defend and support excise tax returns during audits
    • Test and assess implementation of software impacting indirect taxes
    • Prepare forecasts of tax payments for budgeting and cash flow
    • Meet stringent state deadlines of concurrent filings
    • Maintain monthly account reconciliations for indirect taxes for multiple entites
    • Research state and local tax laws & regulations
    • Monitor and update tax calendar
    • Assist in the development and implementation of tax planning opportunities
    • Prepare other non-income tax returns
    • Work independently without the need for close supervision
    • Manage special projects
    • Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned.

    Qualifications

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university.
    • 4-7 years of related experience public accounting experience.
    • Good knowledge of US GAAP and willingness to research and resolve accounting applications;
    • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to research and solve problems and reconcile difficult accounts;
    • Highly detail oriented and organized in work;
    • Ability to meet assigned deadlines;
    • Ability to work independently, as well as cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management to maximize performance
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including the creation and manipulation of Pivot tables, V-/H-LOOKUP, and IF-THEN formula
    • Strong communication skills, both oral and written

     

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Oracle experience is preferred
    • CPA or someone with all CPA requirements met, waiting to be certified (strongly preferred)
    • Big 4 public accounting experience (strongly preferred)
