    Under general direction of the VP of HRIS, Benefits, and Payroll the Benefits Manager is responsible for managing the administration and operations of both Health and Welfare and Retirement (Defined Contribution/Defined Benefit) programs across Young’s Market.  This position develops, recommends and implements new plans or enhancements to existing plans and employee benefits policies. The ideal candidate in this position also develops cost control procedures to assure maximum coverage at the least possible cost to company and employee.


    • Manage the administration, implementation, interpretation, evaluation, communication, and delivery of all employee benefits programs including but not limited to retirement plans; medical, dental, vision plans; life insurance plans; temporary disability programs; and wellness programs.
    • Administer the Retirement Plans, including enrollments, loans, pension calculations and plan distributions.
    • Install approved new benefit plans or changes to existing plans by preparing announcement materials, plan summary documents and other media for communicating plans to employees. Conduct employee meetings and arrange for enrollment. Advise and counsel management and employees on existing benefits. 
    • Manage and drive the well-being committee and program to include strategy and implementation.
    • Proactively conduct assessments and analyze existing benefits including but not limited to cost/benefit analysis, market trends, evolving legislation, internal business needs and benefits forecasts.
    • Participate in professional benefit surveys, evaluate survey findings and develop/propose recommendations for new plans or changes to existing plans to:
    • Maintain and improve our competitive position, and/or
    • Obtain uniform benefits package for all company locations, where possible.
    • Oversee, review, and direct departmental reporting and census data.
    • Oversee the open enrollment process including technical administration, vendor coordination, and the development of a targeted communication strategy to highlight existing benefit offerings to employees.
    • In partnership with legal counsel develop and execute, benefits documentation, such as original and amended plan texts, benefit agreements and insurance policies.
    • Partner with the HR team as needed and assist in the development of company bargaining proposals for employee benefits and analyze union benefits demands. Obtain and prepare cost data for company and union proposals and final settlements.
    • Ensure compliance with provisions of Employee Retirement Income Security Act and the Affordable Care Act.
    • Oversee the preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies, such as Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissioners, and other regulatory agencies.
    • Proactively analyze changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits, and report necessary or suggested changes to management.
    • Work collaboratively with vendors to deliver benefits to employees; monitor and evaluate vendor performance and participate in the vendor selection process.
    • Develop benefits information and statistical and census data for actuaries, insurance carriers and management.
    • Respond to all escalated benefits inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, and courteous resolution.
    • Act as a liaison, with insurance companies, employees, and beneficiaries to facilitate proper and complete utilization of benefits for all employees.
    • Manage the development of the benefits staff.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or equivalent experience
    • At least 7 years of experience working with employee benefit programs
    • 2 years of prior supervisory experience
    • Prior experience in project management preferred
    • Knowledge of workplace policies and employment laws
    • Highly proficient skills in Excel, PowerPoint
    • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • CBP, SPHR, PIHRA or related certification preferred
    • Focus on delivering quality customer service
